Connecting Dots
Why did this happen?
Why did it happen to me?
I bet most of us would have had this question, at some point in our life.
When put into a difficult situation, the easiest thing is to ask, why me?
I did the same.
After my graduation, I was recruited for the role of a Financial Advisor at a Financial Service Company. In contrary to this, my best friend was recruited for the role of a Banker. While, it had always been ME, who dreamed of working in a bank. Then why not me?
We both did great in our interviews, but why was I rejected? This left me shattered. Instead of celebrating my best friend’s achievement, I was devastated.
I stayed in the same city while all my friends moved to different cities. The agony was real unless I got a chance to reunite with one of my old acquaintances from college. He was working in “my dream company”. It was a dream company for almost everyone back in college. This gave me the courage to make an attempt to achieve my dream.
Interviews after interviews, rejections over rejections, 10 failed attempts, 6 months of dedication, and hundreds of LinkedIn messages I finally made it. I was officially an employee of the company which I dreamed of. I was selected only because I had a strong sales background from my last company, which I would not have had in the bank. It was then when I realized, had I been working at a bank or moved to a different city, I would have never made it here.
The story does not end here.
I always had the passion to write and express my views, speak and have my voice heard, address the public, evangelize the company I have loved. I am glad I was allowed to explore my area of interest and it was here, I realized I can transform my passion into a career. I stepped into the world of marketing.
In January 2022 I took up the role of a Product Marketer in the same company. I am now marketing the same product, I have used and loved throughout my professional life in my present and previous company.
I am loving it here!
Today when I connect the dots, I know why I was not selected in the bank, why I stayed back in the same city. Trusting the journey and working hard to achieve your goals is all it took.
